Object Sharing in Mbya Guarani: A Case of Asymmetrical Verbal Serialization?

In this paper, we intend to describe and discuss the grammatical status of V1-V2 (Cy/vy) constructions found in Mbya Guarani which can express simultaneous events, among other meanings, involve a single clause. We suggest here that verbal complex be treated as case asymmetrical serialization because it contains verbs from major lexical class, occupying V1 slot, followed by more restricted intransitive such movement, postural, or stative verbs, stands V2 position. The curious property these is transitivized through attachment applicative causative morphemes “share” its object with transitive V1. “Object sharing” another attributed serialization, suggested Baker Stewart, may seen strong argument favor present hypothesis. will also provide evidence distinguish constructions, temporal purpose subordinate clauses, involving particle vy.
